This article is not intended to replace the literature provided with your Craft ROBO. It is highly recommended that you read ALL the materials provided with your cutter thoroughly prior to attempting set up. The purpose of this article is provide a brief overview of the process for prospective owners.
Opening up the Craft ROBO box, you will find that the manuals, cables and blade fittings are on top and the Craft ROBO machine is located underneath. Lift off the cardboard shelf that houses the manuals and cables, then lift the Craft ROBO out of the box. Remove the foam blocks from each end and place it on a flat, stable surface such as a tabletop or desktop. Bear in mind also that the Craft ROBO needs to be within reach of your computer.
Look for a A3 sized sheet of paper labelled "Quick Start Instructions" (see left). On this sheet is a visual representation of all the bits and pieces you should have. The very same list is also here on the Graphtec website. Check that you have all the corresponding items. (Tip: The stand-off ring is inside the Media Trial Kit package and not in the same package as the blade fittings.) Once you are satisfied that you have everything, you can start setting up your Craft ROBO.
All connections are located on the right-hand side of the Craft ROBO (below-right). The USB connection is towards the front, and the power connection is towards the back (below-left).
Turn on your computer and load the Craft ROBO CD. You will be presented with an installation window (refer right). Follow the on-screen prompt to install the Craft ROBO driver and ROBO Master software (click on the top button).
If you plan to use Adobe Illustrator to draw objects for cutting with your Craft ROBO, you should also install the Illustrator plugin (click on the second button from the top). If not, you can safely ignore this step. (Note that the ROBO Master software allows you to create vector shapes and text for cutting, so you don't really need to use any other program. It's a matter of personal preference.)
The "Quick Application Guide" booklet provides a brief overview of how to handle your cutter, the different media types that can be used and the drawing process with the ROBO Master software. For more detailed information, refer to the user manuals located on the CD in pdf format.
You're finally ready to start cutting with your Craft ROBO!
