Personal Die Cutting Machine

The Cricut Personal is a personal die cutting machine. It cuts shapes and letters out of paper, cardstock and other materials with an electronically controlled blade. For papercrafters this can mean eliminating cutting previously by hand. The Cricut Personal was also the first model released by manufacturer, Provocraft.

The Cricut Personal cuts a variety of thin materials including vellum, paper, cardstock (including Bazzill) and vinyl.

Cutting Area

The maximum cutting area is 6″ x 12″ (or 15.24cm x 30.48cm). The machine comes with a 6″ x 12″ cutting mat to help you position materials and also to protect the machine and the blade. The Cricut Personal cutter can cut the same object in five different sizes ranging from 1″ up to 5.5″ high and a maximum width of 11.5″ (or 29.21cm).

Features

  • Easy To Use – Normal operation is a three step process – turn the machine on and insert a cartridge and overlay, load your mat with your paper and insert into the machine, select an object to cut and press the “cut” button.
  • Computer independent – The machine is a self-contained unit, so you don’t need a computer to run it, nor do you need to be computer literate. (These days you can buy software to connect it to a computer if you really want to.)
  • Portable – It weights approx 7lbs (approx 3.2kg) and has a carry handle so you can transport it. If you’re particularly keen on taking it to crops, it’s possible but you’ll need access to a power point. At home, you can shift it from desk to table to floor without a problem.
  • Cartridges – The machine uses cartridge libraries of designs, so if you’re not that “creative” or “arty” you can just use pre-designed objects from the cartridges.
  • Special effects – There’s a choice of six effects you can apply to designs on the cartridges.
  • LCD – There’s a small display screen which provides on screen instructions and also allows you to preview the design you’ve queued for cutting. When I say “preview”, it’s a very limited preview. For example, if you’re selecting a word to cut, you can ensure that you’ve spelled it correctly because the letters are visible on the display.
