Welcome! The Scrap Witch is a community-based Australian scrapbooking site. Our aim is to provide scrapbookers in Australia with a friendly, independent venue to share their interest in scrapbooking. We also aim to provide some fun activites and motivation to scrap more! We're not a store, nor are we affiliated with any scrapbooking stores (although I do have some online friends who happen to be store owners...does that count?)
Hello, my name is Jill and I'm the owner of The Scrap Witch. I'm married with two daughters and we live in Victoria, Australia. Scrapbooking became my hobby and interest in January 2001 when I hosted a "home class" for a friend. Not too long after I became consultant for the very the same direct sales company (you probably know the one). Soon frustrated by what I wasn't "allowed" to do in my own business venture, I originally opened The Scrap Witch as an independent online store.
The store operated successfully for around 3 years. During this time, the majority of my time was consumed by day-to-day running of the business - particularly processing and packaging orders. Not exactly the glamorous entrepreneurial life I had envisaged for myself. (If I never see another roll of bubble wrap or packaging tape it will be too soon!) Still, I did enjoy running the website and interacting with its many visitors. Eventually this led me to the decision to close the store and focus instead on building a community-driven site.
It's taken me a while to realise (duh) that websites are powerful mediums that can be used for much more than selling things. This site allows me to share my enjoyment of scrapbooking with my online friends and also many other people around Australia and perhaps even the world. Just like at Christmas time when I watch my children's faces as they unwrap their presents, the enjoyment and satisfaction for me comes in the form of giving, rather than receiving.
Of course having said that, I'm incredibly fortunate that the site earns sufficiently from a very small amount advertising to pay for its own upkeep (otherwise I might be in deep trouble with hubby...LOL).
